About this board game
Washington’s Crossing is a two-player operational game about the winter campaign of 1776–1777, with a listed playing time of 480 minutes. Its campaign portrays the events that resulted in the twin victories at Trenton and Princeton and turned the fortunes of the war.
Leaders are activated through activation points, with each leader’s activation cost determined by rank. This system makes command decisions central to play, requiring players to manage when and where their leaders become active during the campaign.
The game features an original river-crossing system designed to simulate the uncertainty of winter crossings. Its combat system represents surprise, leader quality, and outflanking, giving battlefield conditions and command performance an important role in resolving engagements.
Washington’s Crossing uses a detailed operational scale. Each game turn represents one of four turns in a day, each hex covers 1.14 miles (1.83 kilometers), and every strength point represents 10 men. The game is the first in a series of linkable operational games on the American Revolution.
