About this board game

Paletto is a colorful abstract board game for 2–4 players, played in around 15 minutes on a 6×6 square grid. Players remove stones from the board while following a small set of clear rules, aiming to take all six stones of one color or remove the final stone from play.

The game begins with 36 playing pieces: six pieces in each of six colors. They are arranged across the board so that pieces of the same color do not touch horizontally or vertically. On each turn, a player removes a permitted stone, gradually changing the shape and possibilities of the remaining group.

Every removal must satisfy two important conditions. The chosen stone must have at least two vacant sides, and all stones left on the board must remain orthogonally connected. These restrictions make each move part of the larger puzzle, as removing one piece can affect which stones are available next.

  • Play on a 6×6 square grid.
  • Use 36 stones in six colors, with six stones per color.
  • Remove only stones with at least two vacant sides.
  • Keep all remaining stones orthogonally connected.
  • Win by taking all six stones of one color or the last stone on the board.

With its compact playing time and easy-to-follow core rules, Paletto offers a focused challenge for small groups. Released in 2011, it is a derivative of Keks by the same designer.
