About this board game

Nexus is a card-based game for 2–4 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. Players arrange cards in a basket-weave pattern, creating Nexuses from the nodes printed on those cards.

As the layout develops, players mark nodes in an effort to control the Nexuses taking shape. Each placement can contribute to the growing network and bring a scoring opportunity closer.

Scoring happens when a newly placed card closes a Nexus. At that moment, the player with the strongest control on that Nexus scores points equal to the strength of all its open nodes. Players continue building and contesting Nexuses until one reaches the winning total.

  • Place cards in a basket-weave pattern.
  • Form Nexuses from the cards’ printed nodes.
  • Mark nodes to compete for control.
  • Score when a card closes a Nexus.

The first player to score 10 points wins. This clear objective makes every card placement part of the race, while control of the developing Nexuses determines who benefits when they close.

Released in 2001, Nexus is part of the Hip Pocket Games series. It was listed in GAMES Magazine’s GAMES 100 in 2002, giving this short card game a place in the publication’s annual selection.
