About this board game
Wakanda is a 15-minute game for exactly two players about building valuable totem poles and claiming village tiles with unique scoring rules.
Every one hundred moons, members of different tribes gather to sculpt new totems representing family, village, courage, and culture. In Wakanda, players compete to create the most prestigious collection, but a pole’s value depends on both its pieces and where it stands.
At the start, six of eight village tiles are placed in a row, with three tilted 90 degrees to show that they are out of play. Each tile provides a different scoring rule, and the player who claims a tile applies that rule to all of their totem poles. Both players also begin with three headdresses.
- Draw one totem pole piece from the bag on each turn.
- Place the piece on an available village tile, or use a headdress to claim an existing pole.
- When a tile is claimed, place it in front of you and make the next village tile available.
The 21 totem pole pieces include one eagle, two chiefs, three tomahawks, four animal skins, five teepees, and six suns. Once all six poles have been claimed, players score according to their tiles—for example, points for animal skins across their poles or points for each piece in their tallest pole.
Choose when to build and when to claim, then pursue the scoring rules that best fit your poles. The highest score wins this compact contest of tactical placement and timing.
