About this board game

Mondrian: Color in Motion is a color-matching card game for 1–5 players, with play taking about 60 minutes. Players build a shared arrangement of cards, creating overlaps and placing tokens that can later be captured for points.

Each card contains three squares. On your turn, place a card so that at least one square overlaps a card already in play. Every overlap must use the same color. When a card fills an empty area, its colors must also match the adjacent colors.

After placing a card, add a token to each square that has been overlapped. These tokens represent points, but they are not owned by any player yet. Players then jump tokens to capture them, with jumps allowed in any direction, including diagonals.

  • Place: Match colors while overlapping existing cards or filling an empty area.
  • Add tokens: Put tokens on every square that was overlapped.
  • Capture: Jump tokens to claim them for yourself.
  • Draw: End your turn by drawing a card.

Mondrian: Color in Motion supports both solo and multiplayer play. In a solo game, try to surpass your own high score. With other players, you can play through the entire deck or choose a set number of points for a shorter game.

The game ends when a predetermined score is reached or the draw pile is empty. Every card placement can add new tokens to the shared layout, giving the game a clear sequence of matching, overlapping, capturing, and drawing.
