About this board game
Waterloo 1815: la última batalla de Napoleón is a historical wargame for 1–8 players, with a playing time of approximately 180 minutes. It recreates the decisive encounter between the French army and the Anglo-allied and Prussian coalition on June 18, 1815.
The game uses pieces representing the actual units that fought at Waterloo. Infantry and cavalry are represented by brigades, while artillery units are batteries. Unit cards provide combat and movement values for each specific unit type, while every unit displays its corps designation, brigade designation, commander’s name, and morale.
Each turn is made up of two player turns, with a sequence that covers organization, artillery fire, movement, defensive fire, offensive fire, and combat. The player-turn phases are:
- Reorganization
- Artillery defensive fire
- Artillery offensive fire
- Movement
- Defender fire
- Attacker fire
- Combat
Optional event cards add historical variants and uncertainty. Victory is decided at the end of the final turn, with victory points awarded for securing important locations, eliminating enemy units, or killing Napoleon or Wellington.
In the latest editions, wooden blocks and event cards are not included; event cards are supplied as markers instead, while wooden blocks can be obtained as an option through the web shop. The Collector’s edition introduced a solo mode, and its rules can also be used with previous versions because they do not require new components. Waterloo 1815: la última batalla de Napoleón offers a focused way to experience the forces, commanders, and battlefield decisions surrounding Napoleon’s last battle.
