About this board game
Chronology is a timeline game for 2–6 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. Players place historical and cultural events in chronological order, competing to be the first to build a timeline of five cards.
To begin, each player takes a card rack and places a single card on it. The game includes 200 Chronology cards in four categories, all shuffled together. On a turn, a card is read aloud, and the active player decides whether the event happened before or after the card already in their rack.
Answer correctly and you win the card, adding it to your timeline. If the answer is incorrect, the next player gets a chance to guess. As your rack grows, the challenge increases: new events may need to go before, after, or between the events already arranged on your rack.
- Players: 2–6
- Playing time: approximately 20 minutes
- Objective: correctly place five event cards in chronological order
- Contents: 200 Chronology cards, card stands, and instructions
Questions invite players to compare events from different points in time, such as the invention of ice cream cones and silver dollars, or the first drive-in movie and the declaration of “The Star Spangled Banner” as the National Anthem. Each correct placement makes the next decision more demanding.
This 2008 version of Chronology includes updated rules modifications and combines cards from all four categories into one shuffled deck. Build your timeline carefully, test your sense of history, and place time in its place.
