About this board game

Vorpals is a card-drafting game for 2–5 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. Over four rounds, each representing 25 years, rival princes seek power over an island by organizing armies, expanding territories, and fighting neighboring lords.

The goal is to earn more victory points than your opponents by gaining the devotion of the people. You can pursue several paths to success: win wars against neighboring players, construct buildings that produce wood and ore, or use the special powers provided by your units and buildings. These approaches can be followed individually or combined to shape your campaign.

Each round follows four distinct phases:

  • Deployment: Draft a unit card and place it by paying its cost. Units include military forces such as veterans and knights, development units such as workers and farmers, and allies such as dragons and goblins.
  • War: Make war with neighboring players, with the winner gaining victory points.
  • Production: Produce income and resources, then use them to construct buildings such as treasuries, barracks, and castles.
  • Aging: Manage the passage of time as people and monsters die two rounds after deployment.

Every building begins at level 1 and can be improved to level 2 by spending additional resources. This creates an ongoing balance between developing your infrastructure, maintaining your forces, and preparing for conflict.

In Vorpals, generations visibly change as your people and monsters leave play. Careful planning is essential: the forces that help secure victory today may not remain for the final years of your island’s struggle for power.
