About this board game
Monopoly Express is a push-your-luck dice game for 2–4 players that plays in about 20 minutes. Roll property dice, complete Monopoly color groups, and race to reach $15,000 before anyone else.
On your turn, roll the dice and set aside any policeman results. You may also set aside color-group dice to build toward completed property groups. Then choose whether to stop and score or risk rolling again with the remaining dice. If the policemen catch you, you bust and score nothing for the turn.
The game rewards careful timing. When you stop, you score every completed color group plus one incomplete color group. Railroads and utilities also appear on the board, with each property group carrying its own dollar value.
- GO: Rolling the green GO arrow earns $200, but that money is lost if policemen make you bust.
- Houses and Hotels: The House/Hotel die can earn Houses worth $1,000 each, or Hotels worth $5,000 once you already have four Houses.
- Get Out of Jail Free: This result can negate a policeman, including one that would otherwise cause a bust.
- Chance: Chance question-mark faces act as Wilds, but cannot be replaced.
You cannot roll the House/Hotel die until you complete a property group, excluding railroads and utilities. The first player to have at least $15,000 wins immediately, so players do not complete the round.
First released in 1991, Monopoly Express is an updated version of the earlier dice game Don’t Go to Jail. In 2021, it was re-released in the United States as Monopoly DICED!, using square packaging instead of Express’s round packaging.
