About this board game
Europa: Paris ist ja klar, aber wo liegt Córdoba? is a geography board game for 2–6 players with a playing time of about 45 minutes, released in 2009. It challenges players to locate places across a map of Europe.
Players identify cities, rivers and lakes, landscapes and regions, and historical sites. For each location, they decide how precisely to guess. A broad answer is safer, while a smaller guessed area offers a higher potential return—much like betting at roulette.
- Locate a variety of European geographical and historical features.
- Choose between safer, broader guesses and riskier, more detailed ones.
- Score more for precise guesses, but receive nothing for an incorrect answer.
The game’s central appeal comes from this constant balance between confidence and caution. A player who knows the general area may still need to decide whether narrowing the guess is worth the risk. Every location becomes both a geography question and a wager on personal knowledge.
Europa also includes a catch-up mechanism built around barriers on the point track. The leading player must guess the country of a certain location to advance farther, while trailing players can proceed without that additional trial. This gives players behind a chance to close the gap.
In addition, the last player may make a bonus guess by correcting or detailing another player’s guess, earning a bonus point. As the European successor to the geography game Deutschland, Europa: Paris ist ja klar, aber wo liegt Córdoba? expands the same idea to a broader geographical level.
