About this board game
Chessplus: Combine & Conquer is a two-player strategy board game with approximately 45 minutes of play, based on the rules of chess and designed for ages 6 and up.
From the very first move, players can combine and split pieces to create new tactical possibilities. Move a Bishop diagonally onto a Pawn to form a Biawn, which can move as either a Bishop or a Pawn. At any point, the combined piece can split when either individual piece moves away.
Combining pieces can also change the value and direction of a game. A Pawn can travel quickly toward the opposite side of the board by using a Rook or Bishop, then become an extra Queen. However, capturing a combined piece means losing both standard pieces within it, making every combination a meaningful risk.
For an especially powerful pairing, combine a Queen and a Knight to create a Quight. This combined piece moves as a Queen or a Knight, while the Queen can also hop off and return to the board for direct combat.
- Combine pieces to gain new movement options.
- Split combined pieces by moving either piece away individually.
- Use Rooks, Bishops, Pawns, Queens, and Knights in unexpected ways.
- Balance powerful combinations against the danger of losing two pieces at once.
Chessplus games are intended to be faster than chess, with more unexpected moves and new strategies to discover. The game is described as easy to learn in 20 seconds while offering a lifetime of challenge, provided players have a very basic understanding of chess rules.
Chessplus: Combine & Conquer also encourages visual stimulation, independent thinking, and fine motor skills. Released in 2019, it offers a medieval-style battle where Pawns can ride Knights, Rooks can shoot arrows from towers, and Queens can lead the charge on mighty steeds.
