About this board game
Rome & Carthage is a Mediterranean wargame for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Each player controls one of four empires based in Rome, Carthage, Constantinople, or Alexandria.
Your objective is to occupy your opponents’ capitals and destroy their pieces across both land and sea. The contest combines movement, combat, and hand management as rival empires maneuver their forces around the Mediterranean.
Each empire commands several types of units, and every unit has its own movement rules and combat powers. The available forces include:
- Footmen
- Cavalry
- Elephants
- Galleys
Combat is resolved through a standard 52-card deck. Both players play two cards from their hands, then apply the distinctive powers of their units. An elephant doubles a player’s highest card, while cavalry doubles the lowest card, creating different possibilities depending on the cards held.
Some card combinations also enable special actions. These can include seeing what your opponent plays before placing your own cards, adding an element of uncertainty and timing to each battle.
With armies operating on land and at sea, Rome & Carthage presents a compact struggle between four rival empires. Movement rules, unit abilities, and card combinations all matter as players attempt to break through enemy defenses, destroy opposing pieces, and claim the capitals that stand between them and victory.
