About this board game
Anno Domini: Kuriositäten is a historical ordering card game for 2–8 players, played in about 30 minutes.
Each set contains 340 cards. Every card presents a historical event on one side and the year it happened on the other, but players initially see only the descriptions. The challenge is to place events in chronological order without knowing exactly when they occurred.
- Each player starts with nine cards.
- On a turn, add a card to the developing timeline.
- Challenge the order instead of adding a card.
- The first player to get rid of all their cards wins.
After a card is played, the next player can accept the growing sequence or claim that the order is incorrect. All cards are then turned over to reveal the years. If the timeline was correct, the doubting player receives four cards and skips a turn. If the order was wrong, the previous player who accepted it receives two cards.
Because many of the events are obscure and difficult to date, bluffing is at least as important as knowledge. You may have a strong sense of where a card belongs—or simply need to sound convincing enough to keep the timeline moving. At the same time, spotting an unlikely placement can give you a chance to challenge before another player gets closer to victory.
With its simple chronological premise and tense decisions about when to trust or doubt, Anno Domini: Kuriositäten turns historical uncertainty into a lively card game of deduction, risk, and bluffing.
