About this board game

Race to the North Pole is a 2–4 player board game with a playing time of about 45 minutes, in which expedition teams compete to reach the North Pole at the center of the board.

Each player guides their own team across an unforgiving Arctic landscape. The first player to move all of their pawns to the North Pole wins, but reaching the destination requires adapting to changing conditions and the actions of rival expeditions.

Movement is driven by cards placed in front of you. Some cards help your team travel, while others let you ambush opposing players. Tackling another player can disrupt their plans, but it also comes with a cost: you must take an Ice Mask Tile, which may contain useful equipment or nasty hazards capable of ruining a carefully prepared strategy.

The game’s standout feature is its rotating board, which represents the unpredictable Arctic weather. When a storm hits, the game state changes as movement cards travel across the board, the maze of cracks is rearranged, and players move with the weather.

  • Race your expedition team to the North Pole.
  • Use movement cards and ambushes to influence the journey.
  • Take risks with Ice Mask Tiles containing equipment and hazards.
  • Adapt to a rotating board and a constantly changing Arctic maze.

These shifting conditions give Race to the North Pole a strong strategic focus, with every playthrough presenting new challenges through the very end. The game also includes access to the free Dized app, which provides additional content, localizations, and mechanisms for use with smart devices.
