About this board game
Crete 1941: Operation Mercury is a solitaire, operational-level wargame for one player, released in 2016, covering the German airborne assault on Crete in May 1941. You command the German forces, including Italian units, while the game system directs the reactions of the opposing British Commonwealth and Greek forces.
Your objective is to capture Crete while keeping German casualties as low as possible. You choose how to maneuver German units within the rules, but whenever the game requires an Allied action, you must carry it out. This creates a distinctive challenge: you control the German operation, while the opposing response is handled by the system.
The game features two broad types of turns. During Preparation turns, you receive additional Operations Points markers that can enhance actions, and you can refit reduced units. During Operational turns, you conduct movement and combat with German forces as the invasion develops.
