About this board game
Great Scott! is a Victorian-themed card game of mad invention for 3–5 players, with games lasting around 45 minutes. Players compete as rival inventors, creating extraordinary machines for the inventor’s contest at the Great Exhibition.
During play, players draft cards and add components to a five-card invention. Each invention combines three kinds of assets—Animal, Mineral, and Vegetable—with three kinds of concepts: Destructive, Productive, and Transportive.
- Build a five-card invention from drafted components.
- Match asset and concept cards to earn bonus points.
- Use alliteration to pursue the game’s biggest prizes.
- Explain what your invention does and how it works for extra points from the other inventors.
The most successful creations are not merely effective on paper. A memorable name and a persuasive explanation can turn an unusual combination of cards into a contender, whether it resembles a Bedazzling Bat Borne Brass Balloon or a Diabolical Dynamite Driven Duck Dispatcher.
Easy to learn and fast to play, Great Scott! blends card drafting, set matching, inventive storytelling, and playful wordplay. Clever combinations can bring valuable bonuses, while the final invention presentations give every rival inventor a chance to explain their grand design.
With its whimsical 19th-century parlour-game theme, Great Scott! invites players to embrace mad science, amusing alliterative amalgamations, and competition in the spirit of the Great Exhibition. For Her Majesty, and for science!
