About this board game
Lucky Forward: Patton’s Third Army in Lorraine is a two-player GOSS series game covering Third Army’s Fall 1944 offensive in Lorraine, from 6 September to 13 December 1944.
The game follows the campaign until shortly before the Germans launch their Ardennes Offensive farther north. Its scope includes the battles of Metz and Fort Driant, along with the German counteroffensive attempt against Patton using the new German Panzer Brigades.
Players can approach the campaign at different scales. Alongside the full campaign, Lucky Forward includes smaller scenarios covering shorter periods within each of the four months of the campaign, making it possible to focus on selected stages of the Lorraine fighting.
- Two-player simulation of Patton’s Third Army in Lorraine
- Campaign dates spanning 6 September–13 December 1944
- Scenarios featuring Metz, Fort Driant, and the German Panzer Brigade counteroffensive
- Variant counters for an optional airborne operation
- Five maps and twelve counter sheets
Variant counters add an optional airborne operation to the game. The five maps also mate with Wacht am Rhein (2012), providing additional options for combining these simulations.
With its campaign scenario, shorter monthly scenarios, and extensive map and counter package, Lucky Forward presents a focused examination of the Lorraine offensive and the events leading toward the Ardennes Offensive.
