About this board game
Great War at Sea: Cruiser Warfare is a 2–4 player World War I naval game with 30-minute play time, covering a global campaign of commerce raiding, pursuit, and survival.
Set in August 1914, the game places Admiral Maximilian Graf von Spee’s German East Asia cruiser squadron far from home. The German player must disrupt Allied commerce and bring the cruisers home if possible, while the Allied player searches for them and attempts to destroy them before they can cause further damage.
The game’s map divides the entire world into sea areas, giving this installment of the Great War at Sea series its broadest scope. Modified search rules allow German and Austrian ships to seek out prey, while Allied forces track their movements across distant waters. When opposing forces make contact, battles use the series’ standard combat rules.
- Play with German, British, Japanese, Italian, Austro-Hungarian, Russian, and Dutch ships.
- Search sea areas for enemy vessels and resolve encounters through naval combat.
- Recreate the German squadron’s attempt to force its way home around the world.
- Explore scenarios and historical background in the revised accompanying book.
Cruiser Warfare: Final Edition is presented in the popular Playbook format. It includes the playing pieces from the first edition, a new map, full-color play aids, revised rules and scenarios, additional scenarios, and historical background.
This is a complete game, including everything needed to play except dice. With its worldwide map and focus on locating, intercepting, and protecting cruisers, Great War at Sea: Cruiser Warfare turns the dramatic naval events of 1914 into a compact historical contest.
