About this board game

L’Auberge des pirates is a bluffing and risk-taking card game for 2–8 players that plays in about 20 minutes. Recruit your pirate crew, watch for dangerous pairs, and make the right decision when uncertainty takes over.

The cards hide useful information in plain sight. A card’s number indicates how many copies of that value are in the package: there is one card marked 1, two cards marked 2, and ten cards marked 10. By remembering which cards have appeared, you can estimate what may remain in the draw pile and decide how boldly to play.

At the beginning, each player receives three cards and simultaneously places one card in front of themselves. The player showing the smallest value takes the first turn. On your turn, choose an action:

  • Draw: Take a card and keep it in your hand.
  • Attack: Play a card from your hand in front of another player, using a value different from every card already in front of that player.
  • Accuse: Claim that a player has formed a pair in their hand, or between their hand and the cards in front of them. If correct, that player is eliminated; if not, you are eliminated.
  • Challenge: Draw a card without looking at it and place it in front of another player. If it pairs with a card already there, you are eliminated.

Every decision in L’Auberge des pirates balances deduction against nerve. Attack opponents with carefully chosen values, conceal what you know, and judge whether a risky challenge is worth the danger.
