About this board game

New York Central is a card game for 3–5 players that takes about 60 minutes to play. Set across the northeastern section of the United States, it focuses on the struggle among four railroads for growth and domination.

The game’s map of railroad activity stretches from New York to Indianapolis and from Washington to Chicago. Players acquire shares of railroad stock while helping expand the railroads and pursuing opportunities across this broad region.

The four railroads at the heart of the game are:

  • New York Central
  • Baltimore & Ohio
  • Pennsylvania Railroad
  • Chesapeake & Ohio

Players create delivery routes and claim freight runs as they work to develop the railroads. They can also start Passenger services, adding another part of the rail network to manage while the companies continue to expand.

Every part of the game centers on railroad growth: acquiring stock, establishing routes, claiming freight opportunities, and launching passenger services. Together, these activities represent the competition for influence across a major section of the United States.

Released in 2006, New York Central presents its railroad struggle in a focused card-game format. With its combination of stock acquisition, route creation, freight claims, and passenger services, it offers a compact way to explore the expansion of four historic railroads.
