About this board game
Buried Treasure is a card game for 2–4 players with a playing time of about 30 minutes, first released in 1992. Players compete to compile sets of colored cards by drawing from several common stacks.
Each card can bring more than a new color to your collection. The symbol on a card may let you draw another card from the available stacks or even steal cards of the same color from one of your opponents. These effects make every draw relevant as you work to build your holdings.
At the end of each round, players compare their collections. The majority holders of each color gain points, while the amount available for each color varies from round to round. Because scoring values change, collecting cards is about more than simply gathering the largest possible set.
- For 2–4 players
- Approximately 30 minutes of play time
- Collect colored cards from shared stacks
- Use card symbols to draw again or steal same-color cards
- Score by holding majorities in each color
Buried Treasure combines set collection with direct interaction between opponents. Players must watch the shared stacks, respond to changing collections, and consider when an opportunity to take cards from another player could affect the round’s majorities.
The game was awarded the title “Best Family Card Game” by Games Magazine in 2000. Its compact format, changing round values, and symbol-driven card effects create a focused competition around colored-card majorities.
