About this board game

Kaleidos Junior is a visual search and word game for 2–99 players, with approximately 30 minutes of play time. Released in 1997, it challenges players to discover as many suitable objects as possible in richly detailed drawings.

The game includes four identical sets of eight drawings, allowing each player or team to work with their own set. Before searching begins, a spinner determines what everyone must look for. A sand timer then creates a lively race as players identify matching items and cover them with colored tokens.

  • Level one: Search for objects belonging to one of thirteen categories, such as something edible, made of wood, fragile, or round.
  • Level two: Use the letters on the spinner and find objects in the drawing that begin with the chosen letter.
  • Level three: Choose a letter and write down the answers you find, scoring for shared and unique discoveries.

In the first two levels, everyone reveals their answers when time runs out. Each correct answer lets a player place one token in the center of the table, and players choose a new drawing for each round. The first player to get rid of all their tokens wins.

The advanced third level changes the focus from token management to clever scoring. After five rounds, each answer found by another player is worth one point, while an answer found only by you is worth three points. With its adjustable rules, Kaleidos Junior offers a simple introduction to observation and vocabulary before adding more strategic wordplay.
