About this board game
Banks of the Styx: Omen Game 2 is a standalone card game for two players, designed for approximately 30 minutes of play. As half-god children of the Olympians, rival siblings compete to become the greatest of their mortal offspring.
To win the gods’ contest, each player must help sack three cities concealing powerful Kraters, each infused with divine power. Spend Coins to muster forces including soldiers, beasts, seers, and muses, then play Units to the cities to increase your Strength and pursue valuable Rewards.
Each turn follows five distinct steps, giving the contest a clear rhythm:
- Wealth: Use three Wealth Actions to draw Units or gain Coins, with a bonus for focusing all actions on the same resource.
- Surge: Spend Coins to play Units, or discard Units with certain Traits for their abilities.
- Portent: Resolve the abilities of Units with the Glean Trait.
- War: Resolve Sacked Cities and award a Reward to the player with the most Strength there.
- Offering: Discard a card to gain additional cards and/or Coins.
A City is Sacked when the opposing player has at least three Units there, or when the City contains five or more Units. The player with the most Strength claims one of its two Krater cards, worth two points at the end of the game—or one point if its ability is used.
With 22 Unique Unit cards and six Unique Krater cards, Banks of the Styx introduces new Traits and abilities while remaining fully compatible with the other new and unreleased Omen games. The game ends when all three Cities are destroyed or a player reaches the required number of cards in their Rewards. It reimplements Omen: A Reign of War, but is not compatible with previous Omen titles or expansions.
