About this board game
Cabale is a beautiful wooden board game for 2–4 players, with play lasting around 60 minutes. Players move runners across the board, place blocks, and compete to finish with the highest score.
On a turn, a player moves their runner, makes one turn, and places a block on the turning space. This movement creates a changing pattern of occupied spaces as the game develops. When possible, the active player may also capture enemy blocks, adding another way to affect the board and earn points.
Players can also place one blockade. Alongside runner movement and block placement, this gives players an additional action for shaping the positions available during the game. Every decision contributes to the final scoring challenge.
- Move a runner around the board.
- Place a block on the space where the runner turns.
- Capture enemy blocks when possible.
- Place one blockade.
- Score for captured blocks and the value of spaces occupied by your blocks.
Points come from two sources: captured blocks and the value of the spaces occupied by a player’s own blocks. The player with the most points wins, rewarding effective movement, useful placements, and successful captures.
Released in 1999, Cabale offers a tactile wooden presentation built around direct board interaction and accumulating points. It also re-implements Winkeladvokat, making it part of that game’s design lineage while presenting the same core contest through its runners, blocks, and blockades.
