About this board game

History of the Ancient Seas I: HELLAS is a 1–2 player board game with an approximately 360-minute playing time, set in the Mediterranean Sea of ancient times. Lead Athens or Sparta as you seek to become the leading empire in the known world.

Build fleets in your city, explore unknown lands, conquer islands and provinces, and establish a great empire. Move your 3D wooden fleets and legions across a beautifully illustrated map stretching from the center of the Hellenistic world to Persia in the east and Sicily in the west.

Your empire’s progress depends on more than military strength. Expand trade routes, increase your trading status, and develop your military skills, economic efficiency, and culture while monitoring the wealth, happiness, and stability of your people.

  • Lead Athens or Sparta in a contest for imperial dominance.
  • Build armies and fleets to expand across islands and provinces.
  • Develop trade routes and increase your trading status.
  • Choose between costly, uncertain war and a peaceful path toward stability and wealth.

HELLAS is played through highly interactive micro-impulses. At the heart of the system is an action cycle in which players choose from eight possible actions; an action selected by one player cannot be selected subsequently by the next player, and the number of available actions is limited each turn.

War or peace is your decision. You can lead your people into conflict to expand your empire, offer terms to aggressive enemies to distract or delay them, or pursue a golden age of civilization while remaining ready to defend your domain. In History of the Ancient Seas I: HELLAS, every choice shapes the course of your ancient empire.
