About this board game
Sagunto: The Battle for Valencia is a two-player tactical simulation of the Battle of Sagunto, fought on 25 October 1811 during the Peninsular War. A game lasts approximately 240 minutes, offering a focused examination of the clash between the Imperial army and the Spanish army.
The Imperial army is commanded by Maréchal Louis Gabriel Suchet. Opposing him is the Spanish army under the control of Joaquín Blaque and Joves, General Captain from Valencia. The game presents the battle through the system Batallas de la Guerra de la Independencia, also known as Battle of the Peninsular War – 1808-1814.
Its rules use a defined scale for representing the battlefield and the passage of time. Each hex covers 250 metres, or 140 yards, while every game turn represents 15 minutes of action. These scales frame the tactical simulation and connect battlefield movement with the historical timing of the engagement.
