About this board game

Caesar’s War: The Conquest of Gaul, 58-52 BC is a two-player game with an approximately 30-minute play time, covering Julius Caesar’s campaign against the Gauls.

One player commands the Romans, while the other leads the Gauls and their allied Brittanic and Germanic tribes. The map spans the Roman frontier, the three parts of Gaul, the Rhine, and the Northern Sea routes into Britannia.

Players direct armies made up of legions, auxiliaries, fleets, and tribal war bands. Each side has a unique Campaign Card deck that can provide recruits, movement abilities, special combat bonuses, and historic events.

  • Roman cards include Legions on the March, Unrest in the Ranks, and British Campaign.
  • Gallic cards include Helvetian Migration, German Invasion, and Uprising of Gallic Tribes.

Combat uses a quasi-tactical procedure that places Roman discipline against Gallic ferocity. Special rules cover camps, sieges, and morale, adding distinct challenges to battles across the campaign map.

Great leaders can shape the outcome of a battle. Caesar and Vercingetorix bring their own importance to the struggle, and choosing the right commander for the right engagement may determine whether the result brings laurels or disaster.

With asymmetric forces, campaign cards, historic events, and a setting stretching from Gaul to Britannia, Caesar’s War presents a focused contest over one of antiquity’s most significant military campaigns.
