About this board game

Plagio is a 4-player word and deduction game that takes about 20 minutes, first released in 1999. Players hear half of a famous book’s incipit—its opening passage—and secretly write a completion on paper.

Once everyone has written an ending, the papers are gathered together and read aloud. Among the collected compositions is the correct ending from the original card, alongside the players’ own inventions.

The game creates two ways to score. Players can earn points by identifying which ending is the genuine one, and they can also benefit when other players select their composition as the answer they believe—or choose—to be correct.

  • Hear half of a famous book’s opening.
  • Secretly write a possible completion.
  • Listen as all endings are read aloud.
  • Point out the true ending and attract selections for your own composition.

Plagio centers on the contrast between a known literary source and the players’ ability to complete it themselves. The original ending must compete with the group’s written alternatives, making recognition and convincing composition equally important to the scoring.

With its compact 20-minute play time and focus on famous book openings, Plagio offers a concise group challenge built around reading, writing, and identifying the authentic text.
