About this board game

KAITŌ is a two-player strategy game in which samurai compete to remove their opponent’s weapons through carefully timed captures.

On each turn, a player moves the single pawn and captures tiles from the opponent. The location where the pillar changes hands in the playing area is crucial, making each move a decision about both immediate gains and future possibilities.

The game’s central contest revolves around the valuable items held by the two samurai. With the help of Kaitō, the master thief, players mutually capture one another’s helmets, swords, and clan crests.

  • Designed for exactly two players
  • Turn-based play with one shared pawn
  • Capture tiles from the opponent
  • Collect helmets, swords, and clan crests
  • Use captured items to buy back lost weapons

These captured items are more than simple trophies: they can be used to buy back weapons that have been lost. As a result, every capture can influence the balance between the two sides and the weapons still available.

Success in KAITŌ depends on how well you use the master thief and on recognizing when the pillar should change hands. With its focused two-player format and emphasis on positioning, capture, and timing, the game creates a direct strategic duel between two samurai.
