About this board game
The Doom That Came to Atlantic City is a 2–4-player board game with a 45-minute play time, released in 2013. You take the role of a Great Old One, an ancient and eldritch being summoned by a maniacal cult when the stars are right.
Your ultimate goal is to destroy the world before your rivals do. Other Great Old Ones have also arrived, creating a frantic race for power as each contender attempts to gather cultists, crush houses, smash holes in reality, and call down the doom that came to Atlantic City.
Victory can be achieved in two distinct ways. The first is to obtain six gates, which ends the game immediately. Each player has only five gate markers; opening a sixth gate is enough to claim victory.
- Race for six gates: Obtain a sixth gate to win instantly.
- Follow your Doom: Use your personal Doom card to pursue a shortcut to victory.
- Outmaneuver rival Great Old Ones: Compete for cultists while the city falls into chaos.
At the beginning of the game, every Great Old One receives a Doom card. If you land on one of your gates and meet the conditions on that card, you may attempt its listed action. Succeed, and you win the game through your own unique path to apocalypse.
With competing victory routes and opposing cosmic powers sharing the same benighted setting, The Doom That Came to Atlantic City focuses on a race to achieve your objective before another Great Old One can steal the lead and unleash the final doom.
