About this board game
War & Peace is a game for 2–5 players, with an approximately 180-minute playing time, that recreates the fight for Europe from 1805 to 1815. One side plays France and the other Britain, while the major powers of Austria, Russia, Spain, and Prussia shape the changing political and military balance.
France and Britain remain at war throughout the game. France begins with a powerful army and the aid of the Spanish navy, while Britain rules the waves and uses influence and allies to advance its position. Prussia starts neutral, and the other countries can become neutral, conquered neutrals, French allies, or British allies through diplomatic resources or military conquest.
The countries of France, Britain, Russia, Austria, Prussia, and Spain are represented by infantry, artillery, cavalry, and naval units. When Austria and Russia are united, their combined armies are a major force, making the relationships among Europe’s powers central to the struggle.
- Military conflict: Command infantry, artillery, cavalry, and naval units.
- Diplomacy: Change the status of neutral countries and build alliances.
- Political and economic pressure: Britain can be isolated without being conquered.
- Multiple paths to victory: Conquer France or Britain, or isolate Britain through political and economic means.
From France’s initial strength to Britain’s command of the seas, War & Peace places the fate of Europe in the players’ hands. The outcome depends on conquest, influence, alliances, and the shifting loyalties of the major countries.
