About this board game

Walking on the Moon is a 2016 race game for 2–5 players, with an approximate play time of 45 minutes. Set against the lunar ambitions that followed the first Moon landing, it challenges players to compete in a fast and thrilling race across the satellite.

Players guide their astronauts through a hazardous lunar journey, aiming to make long, fast jumps while collecting stars. The route is dangerous, however: astronauts must avoid falling into chasms, crashing into mountains, and being trampled by other players.

On each turn, players take four of six special movement dice and use them to program up to three jumps. The choices require a touch of strategy and spatial vision, while the shared race creates plenty of direct player interaction. A well-planned sequence can move an astronaut quickly toward victory; a poor one may lead to trouble.

  • Choose four of six special movement dice each turn.
  • Program up to three jumps for your astronaut.
  • Collect stars while avoiding chasms, mountains, and other astronauts.
  • Use Earth Control teams for re-rolls or the ability to throw more than four movement dice.

Each player also has the help of an Earth Control team, offering valuable options when plans go wrong or a bigger push is needed. These abilities add flexibility to the dice programming without removing the risks of the lunar terrain.

With its blend of racing, dice decisions, spatial planning, and confrontation, Walking on the Moon delivers an accessible contest for control of the Moon. English rules are available online, and the game is not language-dependent.
