About this board game

1943 1945 is a two-player strategic board game about the battles fought in the Western Mediterranean and Europe between 1943 and 1945, with an average play time of about 60 minutes.

The game recreates a pivotal period of World War II, beginning after Operation TORCH brought large American forces into the Western Mediterranean. Across a zoned map, the Axis and Allies maneuver specialized forces, blocks, and counters through eight rounds divided into impulses.

During each impulse, players take turns moving and fighting. Blocks can be converted into specialized units, including tanks and aircraft, with each conversion carrying its own cost. At the end of movement, an attack arrow determines where combat begins.

  • Roll one die for each attacking cube.
  • A result of 6 inflicts an enemy loss.
  • If tanks participate, results of 5 or higher hit.
  • If aircraft also participate, results of 4 or higher hit.

Players can also use event markers to influence the action. The markers are generic, so each player chooses when and where to place them on a special track to trigger effects such as reinforcements, an additional impulse, an immediate end to a battle, or partisan activity.

Victory goes to the player who controls the majority of areas marked with a star, including locations such as Rome, Tunis, Naples, and Munich. With its compact length, straightforward combat system, and flexible event timing, 1943 1945 presents a focused contest over key territories during the final years of the conflict.
