About this board game
Avec Infini Regret II is a two-player historical board game covering three battles from the French Wars of Religion: Ivry in 1590, Marc’hallac’h in 1591, and Craon in 1592.
Set during a turbulent struggle between the Royalists and the Catholic League, the game follows campaigns shaped by sieges, shifting alliances, and foreign intervention. Each featured engagement presents a different moment in the conflict as Henry IV and his opponents contest control across France.
- Ivry, 1590: With Paris suffering under a year-long siege and Evreux also threatened, the Duke of Mayenne leads the League’s forces to confront Henry IV. The battle is remembered for the king’s famous speech about his white panache and the charge against Egmont’s Spanish lancers.
- Marc’hallac’h, 1591: In Brittany, neither the Royalists nor the League holds a clear advantage. The arrival of 7,000 Spaniards for the League and 2,400 British for the Royalists intensifies a confused campaign marked by repeated reversals.
- Craon, 1592: The League controls most of Brittany under the Duke of Mercœur, supported by Spanish troops. Henry IV sends the Prince of Dombes to seize Craon, later reinforced by the Prince of Conti, before Mercœur’s vanguard appears outside the town.
Avec Infini Regret II offers a focused look at three connected episodes in the later stages of the French Wars of Religion. Its battles bring together royal ambition, League resistance, and international forces in a dramatic historical setting.
