About this board game
Libraria is a complete-information majorities and area-control abstract game for two players, designed to play in about 10 minutes. First released in 2018, it casts both players as librarians competing for control of the books in a bookshelf.
Each match uses 25 randomized tiles, creating a different board arrangement from game to game while keeping the rules consistent. Players take turns placing counters in their color on the intersections of those tiles. Because the game offers complete information, the developing position is visible to both librarians.
The board is filled when each player has placed 18 counters. At that point, the players check the majority of corners for every tile. Whoever controls the majority of a tile receives the books inside it as points, making the placement of each counter part of a wider contest for valuable areas.
- Two-player abstract strategy: Librarians compete directly in a focused duel.
- Randomized board: 25 tiles vary the arrangement for each match.
- Majorities and area control: Tile corners determine who claims the books within.
- Mice affect scoring: Each mouse is worth -1 point because it eats a book.
Total control of a tile makes its result more significant: the points received or lost are increased by one. This gives Libraria an additional reason to pursue complete control rather than settling only for a narrow majority.
With its compact play time, variable tile layout, and fully visible decisions, Libraria presents a concise contest over space, majorities, books, and mice. Every placement helps shape the final scoring across the bookshelf.
