About this board game
Trajan: Ancient Wars Series is a strategic-level Roman-era wargame for 1–2 players, with games lasting about 240 minutes. Designed by award-winning designer Joseph Miranda, it combines, expands, and updates four titles previously published in Strategy & Tactics.
The series covers Trajan, Roman Civil War, Caesar in Gallia, and Germania. Players maneuver legions and barbarian warbands across four maps, with each turn representing one to several months and each map hex measuring 46 miles across.
Updated rules and tables bring the four games together, while a new tactical Battle Board option adds another way to resolve engagements. The revised system also includes individual and campaign scenarios for exploring the conflicts of the Roman era.
- Four maps covering the series’ Roman-era theaters
- More than 1,000 die-cut counters, including 140 new counters
- Rules book and player aid cards
- Eleven new scenarios using all four maps as one large game
The additional scenarios span a range of historical and alternate possibilities, including Year of the Four Emperors, Marcus Aurelius, and What If Caesar Hadn’t Been Assassinated? These scenarios expand the scope of Trajan: Ancient Wars Series beyond its individual games and support extended play across the complete map set.
With its consolidated rules, substantial counter mix, and broad Roman-era coverage, Trajan: Ancient Wars Series presents a large-scale strategic experience focused on the movement and command of legions and barbarian warbands.
