War Between The States, 1861-1865 (Second Edition) is a two-player American Civil War simulation with a listed play time of 360 minutes. It follows the conflict from the opening shots at Fort Sumter to Lee’s surrender at Appomattox.

The game uses three maps to cover the war’s major theaters of operation. Together, they span an area from Galveston, Texas, to St. Joseph, Missouri, and from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Jacksonville, Florida.

A total of 1,400 counters represent various units and game effects. Each game turn covers one week of real-world time, while intervening cycles handle important routines outside the regular movement and combat sequence.

War Between The States can be played as a huge campaign using all three maps, simulating the entire war from beginning to end. This full campaign requires hundreds of man-hours, making it an extensive undertaking for players seeking a detailed historical game experience.
