About this board game
Web and Starship is a strategic space wargame for 2–3 players, with an approximately 120-minute playing time. Released in 1984, it places Earth between two very different galactic powers.
The Gwynhyfarr roam the galaxy in faster-than-light starships. Opposing them are the Pereen, whose planets are connected by a trans-dimensional web that permits instantaneous movement from one system to another. Earth is weak compared with its opponents, but its society is vigorous and expanding.
- Earth: A developing power positioned directly between its two opponents.
- The Gwynhyfarr: A race that travels through the galaxy in faster-than-light starships.
- The Pereen: A race whose linked planets form a trans-dimensional web for instantaneous movement.
Earth can use technologies from both of the other races, creating a distinctive three-sided struggle. The game is notable for supporting a balanced three-player wargame, an unusual achievement among games with three competing sides, where players often join forces against one participant.
Another standout feature is its reasonably accurate three-dimensional star map. Rather than presenting interstellar conflict on a purely flat layout, Web and Starship represents space in three dimensions, giving the setting a distinctive character.
With its opposing movement systems, three competing powers, and unusual approach to three-player balance, Web and Starship offers a focused strategic conflict set among Earth and two technologically distinct alien races.
