About this board game
Field Commander: Robert E. Lee is a solo American Civil War strategy game for 1 player, with an approximate play time of 180 minutes. Take control of the Army of Northern Virginia while the Union forces are controlled by an AI.
Fight through five campaigns covering major battles of the war:
- Seven Days Battles
- Second Manassas
- Antietam
- Chancellorsville
- Gettysburg
Based on the Field Commander: Napoleon design, this edition introduces systems tailored to the American Civil War. Command Points replace Supply Points, helping reform broken Forces or call in scattered Brigades and Regiments. They can also be accumulated when a Force reaches certain Regions on the Battlefield Sheet, reflecting increased morale.
Scout counters support decision-heavy play and represent the important role of cavalry during the period. Union Forces follow Campaign Map Orders until they enter a campaign’s Battle Area, where a separate Battle Area Orders table guides their actions. The Union AI also uses Aggressive or Defensive tactics and expanded Special Battle Plans, including mass charges, Flanking Fire, and Hidden March.
Artillery can be captured rather than destroyed, while artillery range attenuation makes distant targets less vulnerable to its full effectiveness. Each campaign adds Special Rules focused on its key events, features, and commander personalities.
Customize the experience with Regular, Hard, and Veteran Difficulty Levels. You may combine effects from different levels, such as the Regular Fog of War table with Hard Command Points and Veteran campaign Special Rules. In Field Commander: Robert E. Lee, every choice helps shape the course of a demanding Civil War campaign.
