Cyrano

About this board game

Cyrano is a poetry game for 3–9 players that takes about 60 minutes, challenging players to write four-line poems, recognize originality, and vote for the most beautiful verse.

Each round begins when the current player draws one Theme die and two Rhyme dice from their bags. The dice are rolled in the center of the table, giving everyone a shared theme and the required rhymes to inspire their poems.

1. Create poems: Write a four-line poem using the rolled theme and rhymes.
2. Determine originality: Consider the originality of the poems.
3. Vote: Read the poems and choose the one you find most beautiful.

After the votes are revealed, players fill in half-hearts on the right side of their sheets. Starting from the top and moving down, each player fills in one half-heart for every person who voted the same way, including themselves. This rewards the good taste needed to predict which poem will receive the most votes.

Across the game, poets strive to complete as many hearts as possible while balancing creativity, rhyme, and appeal. The player with the most complete hearts on their sheet at the end is declared the greatest poet.

With its combination of shared prompts, short-form writing, reading aloud, and group voting, Cyrano turns every round into a fresh poetic challenge. If players tie for the most complete hearts, they share the victory.
