About this board game
Apistocracy is a 2025 board game for 2–4 players that combines worker placement with a trick-taking game based on Whist, playable in about 80 minutes. Set during the 1851 social season of Victorian London, it invites players to compete for the title of the season’s favorite.
Each player has a season host with a unique ability. Hosts provide the influence needed to open the first doors of the season, but players must build further connections to gain invitations to the most coveted events. Across four weeks, every choice can shape your rise through London’s social beehive.
- Gallery: Commission painting sets and strive to become the artist’s muse.
- Ballroom: Make valuable connections and become the favored guest.
- Tea room: Learn secrets that may support your social ambitions.
- Parlor: Curate your hand for the final Whist game.
Apistocracy offers nuanced action selection and plenty of strategic decisions. You may spend resources to move up the beehive, dance in the ballroom to gain a valuable card for your player mat, or commission a portrait while working toward a completed painting set. The challenge lies in deciding which opportunities best advance your position.
At the end of the season, players compare their Victoria points. Whoever has the most is named Queen Victoria’s favorite and wins the game. Whether you create a buzz throughout the social season or fall short of the coveted title, there is always another season to make your debut.
