About this board game
Operation Overlord is a 2026 strategic wargame for two players with a 480-minute play time, simulating the Normandy invasion and the battles that followed from June through August 1944.
One player commands the Allied SHAEF forces, planning and executing the largest amphibious operation in history. The other takes the role of Oberbefehlshaber West, defending the Atlantic Wall and seeking to delay the Allied advance long enough to change the wider course of the war.
Played at the operational-strategic level, the game focuses on timing, logistics, intelligence, and command structure rather than individual tactical skirmishes. Players maneuver divisions and army corps across a detailed map of Normandy, manage supply networks and reinforcements, and carry out historical or fictional operations supported by doctrine, supports, and event cards.
- Secret monthly Allied planning for strategic and special operations
- German designation of key cities as Festungen to be held at all costs
- Weekly intelligence, supply, reinforcement, movement, and combat decisions
- Hidden unit values and simultaneous combat card reveals for persistent fog of war
Victory in Operation Overlord is measured not only by territory, but also by time and consequences. Every week the German player gains can affect morale, resources, and other fronts of the war, while an Allied breakthrough ahead of schedule can reshape history.
With June, July, August, and full-campaign scenarios, Operation Overlord offers robust asymmetry and a demanding test of planning and operational art for players seeking a serious, historically informed World War II wargame.
