About this board game

Madoshi is a 1–2 player game of elemental pattern matching and Yokai capture that plays in about 30 minutes. On a 5×5 grid, priests of the Sun and Moon compete to manipulate nature and gain the most points.

The land is filled with latent magical energy, while the Sun and Moon struggle to give spirits and ghosts life. As priests of these opposing powers, players take turns swapping one token on the grid to create an elemental pattern matching one of the available Yokai cards.

Matching a Yokai’s source element provides additional power. Once a Yokai is captured, its release of magical energy changes the battlefield, creating new challenges and opportunities for both sides.

  • Play on a shifting 5×5 grid.
  • Swap one token to form patterns matching available Yokai cards.
  • Gain extra power through matches in the source element.
  • Trigger effects that can create voids, reveal wild magic, or shift the universe.

Three levels of Yokai cards are placed beside the board, giving the contest a changing range of targets. Players must adapt as the elemental field transforms and as the available cards are captured.

When one of the three Yokai decks has been depleted, the game ends. The player with the most points wins. In Madoshi, every swap can reshape the field of battle as the priests of the Sun and Moon pivot for advantage.
