About this board game
King Of The Hill: The Dwarf Throne is a strategy board game for 2–5 players, with play sessions lasting about 75 minutes. Each player leads a dwarven clan and seeks to become the next king following the death of the dwarf king.
To win the throne, players must impress the dwarf council through a combination of planning, resource gathering, and bold claims about their clan’s exploits. The competition is focused on gaining glory, runes, and, most importantly, the votes of the council members who will choose the new ruler.
During the game, players place their workers in several locations to pursue resources and opportunities. Each council member requests a certain number of resource points, giving players objectives to meet as they work to earn the council’s support.
- Lead one of the competing dwarven clans.
- Place workers across different locations.
- Acquire resources and meet council members’ requests.
- Compete in location bets using cards valued from 1 to 6.
- Build glory, collect runes, and gain dwarf votes.
Every location includes a bet, with cards determining who is considered the best there. These contests add direct competition to the worker-placement decisions, as players strive to outperform rival clans while pursuing the resources and influence they need.
When the mourning days end, the clan leader with the most votes becomes the new king of the hill. Released in 2016, King Of The Hill: The Dwarf Throne combines clan rivalry, council influence, worker placement, resource goals, and competitive bets in a contest for the dwarven crown.
