About this board game
Mekhane is a narrative game for 3–8 players that plays in about 30 minutes, with fate and gods shaping the story through available characters and tale cards.
In Mekhane, each player takes the role of a god with a favorite character in the unfolding tale. The story is divided into rounds called chapters, giving the game a clear progression as the characters’ fate develops.
Tale cards are used to tell the story involving the available characters. Alongside them, destiny cards communicate each god’s wishes, identifying which characters should survive. The numbers on a destiny card refer to the positions of the character cards, connecting each god’s secret priorities to the characters in play.
- Use tale cards to develop the story around the available characters.
- Follow destiny cards to determine which characters each god wants to survive.
- At the end of each chapter, let fate decide which character will die.
- At the end of the game, check whether a god’s favorite character has survived.
Because fate decides a death according to how the story has developed, every chapter contributes to the final outcome. The changing story and competing survival goals keep attention focused on which characters will remain until the end.
The central question is simple: will your favorite character survive the tale? A god wins when their chosen character is still alive at the game’s conclusion, making Mekhane a compact contest of storytelling, destiny, and survival.
