About this board game
Foreign Legion Paratroopers: Rapid Response Force is a solitaire modern-warfare game for 1–2 players in which you control French forces while the game system directs the Opposition Forces (OPFOR).
Play unfolds through individual missions, also called scenarios. Each mission presents a self-contained engagement, and you can link missions together to create a larger campaign game. The publisher recommends playing a couple of games before beginning a campaign, giving you time to become familiar with the system.
Although designed primarily as a solitaire wargame, Foreign Legion Paratroopers can also support multiple players, with each player controlling different parts of the REP. The game’s time and distance scales are deliberately broad, allowing missions to represent operations of very different sizes.
- Each turn represents anywhere from 12 hours to one week.
- Mission Map hexes range from 0.5 to 5 kilometers across.
- A platoon represents 30–60 soldiers.
- OPFOR units represent anywhere from 10 to 1,000 fighters.
The result is a mission-based framework that combines tactical decisions with the uncertainty of an opposing force controlled by the game system. Whether played as a single scenario or as part of a linked campaign, the game focuses on directing French forces across changing operational scales.
The 2020 release includes one 22-by-34-inch map on a single sheet and 176 counters. Published in Modern War #46 from March–April 2020, it offers a compact physical package for players looking for a solo-focused wargame built around missions, variable unit scales, and campaign play.
