About this board game
Yomi Starter Set: Grave versus Jaina is a competitive two-player card fighting game with matches lasting about 30 minutes. It replaces physical dexterity with hand management, matchup knowledge, character mastery, and the ability to read your opponent.
This starter set includes two character decks, letting players face off immediately as Grave and Jaina. Each deck follows the conventions of a standard deck of playing cards: numbered cards are normal moves, face cards are special moves, and aces are powerful super moves.
Both players draw an opening hand of seven cards, then draw one card each turn. They simultaneously play combat cards face down before revealing them and resolving the fight. Blocking an attack lets you draw a card, while a successful attack or throw can lead into a combo. Dodging an attack lets you respond with a single move.
- Bluffing: A player who may be hit by a combo can play a facedown Joker or bluff card. A Joker prevents the combo from dealing damage.
- Powering up: Pairs, three-of-a-kinds, four-of-a-kinds, and chain combos can help players search their decks for aces.
- Multiple modes: Play the main 1v1 battle, a 2v2 Team Battle, a solo mode against an automated opponent, or a 3v3 mode.
Yomi tests valuation—judging the changing value of cards and moves—and Yomi itself, the skill of reading patterns in an opponent’s play. The match ends when a player reaches zero life or draws the last card of their deck; if time runs out, the player with more life wins.
Designed and balanced for tournament play, Yomi Starter Set: Grave versus Jaina offers a focused introduction to a broader system where different character decks create new matchups.
