About this board game

In Teufels Küche is a light children’s game for 2–4 players, played in about 60 minutes. In this devilish contest, players move little devils in chefs’ caps around the underworld, collecting pots and trying to be the first to gather 10 points worth of dishes.

Before play begins, each player secretly assigns one of four values—1, 3, 5, or “milk”—to each of the four pots in their color. Players then take turns placing their pots on the board, creating hidden-value targets for the devils to discover.

On a turn, a player rolls dice and moves their devils appropriately. A devil may try to reach another player’s pot or carry a pot back to the kitchen. The valuable dishes can advance a player toward victory, but milk brings a dangerous surprise: when a devil delivers milk to the kitchen, it explodes, and the devil carrying it is removed from the game.

  • Secretly assign values to four colored pots.
  • Roll dice and move devils around the underworld.
  • Collect pots and bring them back to the kitchen.
  • Race to reach 10 points worth of dishes.

The game’s standout feature is a large plastic stove in the center of the board. When two opposing devils share the same space, they begin a duel. The players take turns pushing the plunger that forms the oven’s stovepipe until a large devil pops out, deciding who wins the confrontation.

With hidden information, dice-driven movement, pot collecting, and a memorable physical gimmick, In Teufels Küche combines playful suspense with direct competition. Released in 1993, it is a rethemed and slightly altered version of the author’s earlier games Top Secret (1985) and Spion & Spion (1987).
