About this board game
Cat & Chocolate is a card game for 3–6 players that takes about 20 minutes, set in a haunted mansion where players improvise escapes from supernatural dangers.
On each turn, the active player faces a threat card, such as a crumbling floor, erupting flames, ghosts, or the living dead. They must choose 1–3 items from their hand and explain how those tools help them avoid the danger.
How could a cat and a piece of chocolate protect you? Could money and rope get you out safely? The answer is up to the active player’s story, but survival depends on the other players’ judgment.
- Choose 1–3 items to use against the current threat.
- Explain your escape plan to the table.
- Vote on whether your story means you succeeded.
After the story, everyone votes on whether the escape worked. If a majority supports the active player, they keep the threat card; otherwise, they do not. Because each player secretly belongs to either the Secret Society or the Cult, voting is also a hidden-team decision: you want to support your allies, but nobody knows exactly who is on your side.
After a certain number of threats, the game ends and all secret affiliations are revealed. Each group counts the threats successfully escaped by its members, and the group with more avoided threats wins. With its mix of imaginative explanations, table-wide voting, and concealed loyalties, Cat & Chocolate turns every strange item into a possible escape plan.
