Burn the Fort

About this board game

Burn the Fort is a 2023 semi-cooperative board game for 2–4 players, with play lasting about 120 minutes. Each player takes the role of a historic warrior resisting colonial invasion and seeking to destroy a military fortress.

Colonizers are building their fort and sending wagons loaded with supplies toward it. Players must decide how much they are willing to cooperate as they gather and play cards, trade, battle wagons, and work toward the tokens needed to set the fort ablaze.

Everyone begins the game in an alliance, but cooperation is not guaranteed to last. Alliances can be broken, creating difficult choices as players balance shared resistance against their own position in the struggle.

• Gather and play cards to support your actions.
• Trade with other players while navigating the fragile alliance.
• Battle the wagons before they deliver supplies to the fort.
• Collect fire tokens and the arrowhead tokens required to burn the fort.

Each wagon that reaches the fort advances the train toward the Golden Spike. If the train arrives, mass colonial invasion will follow, bringing the fierce anti-colonial resistance to an end.

In Burn the Fort, victory depends on more than simply facing the colonial forces. Players must determine when collaboration is essential, when an alliance has run its course, and whether they can gather what is needed before the advancing train makes resistance impossible. The result is a challenging and empowering game about confronting history through negotiation, conflict, and collective action.
